~ We Assemble in God’s Name ~
Call to Worship- (Psalm 71:1-6)
One: In you, O Lord, I take refuge; let me never be put to shame.
All: In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me; incline your ear to me and save me.
One: Be to me a rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.
All: Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel.
One: For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
All: Upon you I have leaned from my birth; it was you who took me from my mother's womb. My praise is continually of you.
One: Come, let us worship God, our refuge, our rock, and our fortress. Let us raise our voices in praise.
Opening Prayer
* Hymn of Praise #300 “All Glory, Laud, and Honor”
* Call to Confession
* Prayer of Confession
Merciful God, We confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. (Let each worshipper offer silent, personal prayers of Confession) Amen.
* Assurance of Pardon
* Sharing the Peace of Christ
One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
All: And also with you.
*Gloria Patri (#813)

Sermon “Jesus as Lord of our lives”
The Scots Confession (3.01): We confess and acknowledge one God alone, to whom alone we must cleave, whom alone we must serve, whom only we must worship, and in whom alone we put our trust. Who is eternal, infinite, immeasurable, incomprehensible, omnipotent, invisible; one in substance and yet distinct in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. By whom we confess and believe all things in heaven and earth, visible and invisible to have been created, to be retained in their being, and to be ruled and guided by his inscrutable providence by such end as his eternal wisdom, goodness, and justice have appointed, and to the manifestation of his glory. Amen.
Hymn # 599 “Jesus is Lord of All”

Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, now and forever. Amen.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FOLLOW JESUS? WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE PRESBYTERIAN?
There are several opportunities coming in the next few weeks to delve more deeply into these questions:
- "Being Presbyterian: Foundations of Presbyterian Discipleship" is the topic of the Men's Group, which meets 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 29 at a location to be announced. Lesson 2 is "Wicked Bad." Why do we talk about sin and evil? Are we saying that we are wicked bad -- the worst of the worst? Please call Pastor Gary at (815) 590-1792 for more information. If there is also interest in exploring this series in a women's group or another venue, please let Pastor Gary know.
- "What do deacons do?" Being a deacon is more than sending a card to a sick parishioner; it is really about serving as the hands and feet of Christ for a congregation. A short class exploring what deacons do will take place 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, in Fellowship Hall. Consider attending in order to learn more about the possibilities of this vital ministry for the church whether or not you are a deacon.
- Who are ruling elders and deacons? What do they do? What is the Book of Order and the Book of Confessions all about? How does the church work? How does all of this help us serve Jesus Christ and engage in Christ's mission in the community? To find out, please attend the "Ordered Ministry Series" to be held after worship at the church on Feb. 7, 14, and 28. The first topic is "Ordered Ministry." Please RSVP to Pastor Gary at (815) 590-1792 so enough worksheets can be made available.
- Learn the Scripture. Our exploration of the New Testament continues 7-8 p.m. each Thursday in the old Fellowship Hall. Everyone is welcome.
THE FOOD PANTRY continues to accept donations. Please leave them in the large container by the stairs. Thank you so much to all of those who have donated food over the past few months. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
